Spiral Staircases

Mild Steel and Stainless Steel, Made to Your Floor Height

A spiral staircase climbs a full floor inside a circle, which is why it is so often the only staircase that fits an Indian apartment, a duplex mezzanine or a terrace. It is also the staircase where proportion matters most, because a spiral that is a few centimetres too tight is one people quietly stop using.

We fabricate spiral staircases in mild steel and stainless steel at our workshop in Malad, Mumbai, and install them across India. Every one is welded to the floor height of the building it is going into.

What we build

Spiral Staircases We Make

  • Compact spirals for loft, mezzanine and terrace access, where floor space is the whole constraint.
  • Domestic spirals sized for daily use as the main route between two floors.
  • Outdoor spiral staircases for terraces and rooftops, galvanised and detailed to drain.
  • Circular and curved flights, and helical designs without a centre column where the space allows.
  • Metal spirals with a mix of treads: steel, hardwood, stone or toughened glass on a steel structure.

Photographs of completed work are on the portfolio.

Materials

Mild Steel, Stainless Steel and the Treads on Top

  • Mild steel (MS) is the usual structure. Strong, economical, easy to weld, and finished in powder coat indoors or galvanised for outdoor use.
  • Stainless steel (SS) needs no coating at all. Grade 304 suits most interiors; grade 316 is the right choice anywhere near the sea, where chloride in the air stains lesser grades.
  • Treads can be steel chequer or perforated plate, teak and other hardwoods, stone, or laminated glass.
  • Handrails and balustrades in steel, stainless, glass or cable, chosen separately from the structure.

Choosing between them is mostly a question of where the staircase will live. Staircase materials for Indian conditions compares each one in detail.

Sizing

Choosing a Diameter

Diameter decides how comfortable a spiral is to climb, because each tread is a wedge and people walk on the wider outer third.

  • Around 1.2 m (about 4 ft): tight. Right for occasional access to a terrace or loft.
  • 1.4 m to 1.6 m (about 4.5 to 5 ft): the usual size for a spiral used every day in a home.
  • 1.8 m (about 6 ft) and above: generous, for a main staircase or a spiral meant to be seen.

Floor space saved by going smaller is usually paid back in a staircase that is awkward to use. How much space a spiral staircase saves goes through the measurements.

Safety

Built to the Dimensions That Matter

  • Handrail height between 34 and 38 inches, continuous from bottom to top.
  • Baluster gaps a small child cannot pass through, including at the top landing.
  • The same rise on every step, so the rhythm of the climb never breaks.
  • Enough headroom at the point where you turn under the floor above.

All of this is fixed on the shop drawing before any steel is cut. Is a spiral staircase safe for an Indian home explains why each one matters.

Ordering

How an Order Works

  • Send the floor-to-floor height, the size of the opening above, and a few photographs of the space.
  • We quote against those measurements. The quotation covers fabrication, finish, transport and installation.
  • We prepare the shop drawing. It is part of the contract and its cost is already in the quotation.
  • Once the quotation is agreed, we survey the site, anywhere in India.
  • The staircase is fabricated in our workshop and installed by our own team.

Most staircases are completed in 2 to 4 weeks from drawing approval. Larger or more intricate builds can take longer, and we confirm the timeline before fabrication begins.

Questions

Common Questions

Do you install spiral staircases outside Mumbai?

Yes. We take on projects across India and have completed more than 1,000 of them. Delivery across India explains how a project runs at distance.

Metal or wooden spiral staircase?

The structure is steel, which is what makes a spiral rigid. Timber comes in as the treads and handrail, where it is warm underfoot and to the touch.

Can a spiral staircase go outdoors?

Yes, and terrace access is one of the places a spiral is at its best. Outdoor spirals are galvanised or made in stainless steel and detailed so water never stands at a joint. See terrace and external staircases.

Why does my spiral staircase tick or creak?

Usually it is the steel expanding and contracting with the temperature, not a fault. Thermal movement explains how to tell the difference.

What does a spiral staircase cost?

It depends on the diameter, the floor height, the material and the railing, so we quote each staircase against its measurements rather than publish a figure. What sets a staircase price covers what moves the number.
