SS Railings

Stainless Steel Railings and Handrails, Welded in Mumbai

SS is short for stainless steel, so an SS railing is a stainless steel railing. It is what most people ask for, and for good reason. Stainless steel needs no paint or coating to protect it, so a stainless railing on a staircase, balcony or terrace keeps looking the way it did on installation day with very little effort.

We fabricate SS railings and handrails in our workshop in Malad, Mumbai, weld them to the dimensions of your site, and install them across India. They can go in with a new staircase or be fitted to one that is already standing.

What we build

SS Railing Systems

  • SS baluster railings. Stainless posts and balusters with a stainless handrail. The most common choice for staircases and balconies.
  • SS and glass railings. Toughened or laminated glass panels held by stainless posts, clamps or standoffs, usually with a stainless handrail on top.
  • SS cable railings. Slim stainless posts carrying taut horizontal 316-grade cables, for an open view.
  • SS handrails. Wall-mounted on brackets, for staircases, landings and ramps where a full balustrade is not needed.

All of them are available for interior staircases, balconies, terraces and commercial buildings. Other railing systems, including mild steel and aluminium, are on railings and balustrades.

The grade

SS 304 or SS 316

Stainless steel comes in grades, and the grade matters more than most quotes admit. If you are weighing stainless against mild steel in the first place, see what MS and SS mean and which to use.

  • SS 304 is the standard grade. It is right for most interiors and for sheltered positions away from the sea.
  • SS 316 contains molybdenum, which resists the chloride in coastal air. In Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi or anywhere salt reaches the building, 316 is the grade to specify for an exposed railing.

Choosing 304 in a coastal position is the usual cause of brown speckling on a stainless railing within a year or two. The steel is not failing, but the stain is permanent work to remove. Staircase materials for Indian conditions covers the grades in more detail.

Finish

Brushed or Polished

  • Brushed (satin) finish has a fine grain that hides fingerprints and light scratches. It is the practical choice for a handrail people hold every day.
  • Polished finish reflects light and looks sharp, but shows every mark. It suits places where the railing is seen more than touched.
Safety

The Dimensions We Build To

  • Handrail height between 34 and 38 inches.
  • Baluster gaps a small child cannot pass through.
  • A handrail that runs the full length of the flight and is comfortable to grip.
  • Fixings sized for people leaning on the railing, not just its own weight.
SS or MS

Stainless Steel or Mild Steel Railing

Mild steel railings cost less and can be powder coated in any colour, but they rely on that coating to stop rust, so the coating has to be kept intact. Stainless costs more and needs no coating at all. Indoors and inland, a well finished MS railing is a sound choice. Outdoors, on a terrace, or near the sea, stainless usually works out cheaper over the life of the railing.

Ordering

How an Order Works

  • Send the length of the railing, whether it follows a staircase, and a few photographs.
  • We quote against those measurements, covering fabrication, finish, transport and installation.
  • The shop drawing is part of the contract and its cost is already in the quotation.
  • Once the quotation is agreed, we survey the site, anywhere in India.
  • The railing is welded in our workshop and fitted by our own team.

Most work is completed in 2 to 4 weeks from drawing approval. Larger or more intricate runs can take longer, and we confirm the timeline before fabrication begins.

Questions

Common Questions

Does SS railing rust?

Not the way mild steel does. Stainless can show brown surface staining, most often grade 304 in coastal air. Grade 316 resists it, and early staining cleans off. How to clean a stainless steel railing explains what causes it and what not to use.

Which grade should I use in Mumbai?

For an exposed railing on a balcony or terrace, SS 316. For an interior staircase away from open windows, SS 304 is usually fine.

Can you fit an SS railing to my existing staircase?

Yes. Replacing an old railing on a sound staircase is common work for us, and it is often the simplest way to make a staircase safer and more modern.

How is an SS railing priced?

By the length of the run, the system, the grade, any glass and the finish. We quote each railing against its measurements rather than publish a figure. What sets the price explains what moves the number.

Send the Length and a Photograph

The length of the run, the location, and a photograph are enough for us to recommend a system and a grade. Send your measurements, or see spiral staircases and terrace and external staircases.
